India has recorded 11,109 fresh Covid-19 cases on Friday, marking a continuous surge on fifth consecutive day this week. On Thursday, the country had reported 10,158 cases while on Wednesday the tally stood at 7,830 cases. Meanwhile, with 29 new fatalities, the death toll due the disease has increased to 5,31,064. The fatality rate stands at 1.19%, the health ministry data revealed. Whereas active cases have jumped to 49,622.

Three deaths each were reported from Delhi and Rajasthan, two each were from Chhattisgarh and Punjab and one each from Himachal Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Odisha, Puducherry, Tamil Nadu, Uttarakhand and Uttar Pradesh besides nine reconciled by Kerala, the data updated at 8 am stated.
Covid cases in India have been on the rise over the past few weeks. India has reported today over 11,000 fresh Covid cases, highest single-day tally in nearly eight months.
Delhi 1527 and Maharashtra 1086 cases
Delhi and Maharashtra are major contributors to the tally. Delhi reported 1,527 and Maharashtra logged 1,086 new covid-19 cases yesterday. Director of Delhi’s LNJP Hospital said on Thursday that Covid cases in the national capital will peak in the next couple of weeks. Delhi’s single-day COVID-19 cases count breached the 1,000-mark for the first time in more than seven months on Wednesday, while the positivity rate stood at 23.8 per cent. Maharashtra logged 1,086 new covid-19 cases and one death yesterday. State has seen 53 Covid deaths since January, with over 58 per cent among the fatalities being patients with comorbidities like diabetes and hypertension, as per an analysis by state government.
Gujarat logs 417 new cases
Gujarat recorded 417 new cases of Covid-19 and one death on Tuesday. While 322 patients have recovered from the infection. Ahmedabad, was at the top in the tally with 139 cases, whereas Baroda 55, Surat 51, Mehsana 46, Patan 20, Gandhinagar 19, Bharuch 15,Valsad 14, Rajkot 13 and Anand and Morbi each reported 5 new cases of Covid – 19. Currently, there are total 2087 active cases in the state, out of which 3 patients are being treated on ventilator.
