At least seven people died in Akola, Maharashtra due to heavy rain. An old tree fell on a tin shed of a temple in Paras of Balapur taluka on Sunday. According to the reports, 7 people lost their lives whereas around 30 to 40 people were injured in the incident. Heavy rain occurred in Akola district of Maharashtra with gusty winds Sunday late evening. As nearly 40 devotees gathered for a religious ceremony. They were standing under the shed during the rain, the number of death is high in the incident.

Incident at Babuji Maharaj temple
Babuji Maharaj Mandir Sansthan is located in the village, there was a very old neem tree. After the incident, people in the vicinity also rushed to join rescue operation, many people were buried under the shed. The information regarding the accident was given to the police. An ambulance reached the spot and the injured were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. The help of JCB was taken to remove the tree and save the people.
The Collector and the Superintendent of Police immediately visited the spot and coordinated to ensure timely treatment of the injured. Nima Arora the Collector of Akola informed, “Nearly 40 persons were present under the shed, out of which 36 were admitted in the hospital and four of them were brought dead.” Collector Arora added, “Later the death toll rose upto seven, and one person is critically injured. ”
Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis expressed his deep condolences over the death of “some devotees” in the incident. Talking about the treatment of the injured, Fadnavis tweeted, “Some of the injured have been admitted to the District General Hospital and minor injuries are being treated at Balapur.” Fadnavis added, “The government will provide financial assistance to the families of the deceased and the injured will be provided medical treatment free of cost. I have ordered an investigation into the incident.”
