The health ministry on Friday informed that 9,309 fresh cases of COVID-19 have been reported in India in the past 24 hours. The addition of the fresh cases has taken the COVID-19 case tally past 1.08 crore.
The ministry also informed that over 75.05 lakh people have been vaccinated so far. Of it, over 4.87 lakh people were vaccinated on Thursday.
So far, the biggest single-day surge of 97,894 COVID-19 cases was reported in India on September 17. The second-highest surge of 97,570 COVID-19 cases was recorded on September 12. It is followed by 96,551 cases reported on September 11.
Notably, India has already surpassed Brazil in terms of cases. It is now the second-worst hit nation due to the coronavirus pandemic after the US.
1.55 lakh deaths due to COVID-19
Also, 87 COVID-19 related deaths were reported by the ministry during this period. The addition of the fresh fatalities has taken India’s death toll due to the deadly virus to 1,55,447.
Previously, the death toll had crossed the 1,200-mark on September 16.
Similarly, the biggest surge of over 97,894 cases was reported on September 17.
1.05 crore patients recovered
Of the over 1.08 crore coronavirus cases reported so far, over 1.35 lakh are active cases of the virus. It is 1.25 per cent of the total caseload. Interestingly, over 1.05 crore cases have recovered from the viral infection so far.
Thus, the country’s recovery rate stands at 97.32 per cent. The recovery rate had marginally dipped for the first time on August 27, 2020, because of the surge in active cases. It again dropped marginally on September 7, 10 and 11, and on November 25, 26 and 27 due to a surge in cases. Otherwise, there had been a gradual rise in the recovery rate.
Over 20.47 crore samples tested
So far, as per the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), over 20.47 crore samples for COVID-19 has been tested in the country. Of the total samples tested, 14.92 lakh samples were tested on September 24. Notably, it is the highest number of samples tested in a day. The second-highest number of over 14.23 lakh samples was tested on September 30. Over 7.65 lakh tests were carried out on February 12.
87 deaths in a day
Of the 87 deaths reported in a day, 25 deaths are from Maharashtra, six from Tamil Nadu and seven from Karnataka. No death has been reported from Andhra Pradesh and West Bengal reported five deaths, whereas no death is reported from Uttar Pradesh. Gujarat and Delhi have reported two deaths each, whereas Madhya Pradesh reported one death. Punjab has reported seven deaths.
No death has been registered in Odisha, whereas Bihar and Telangana reported one death each. Two deaths have been reported each from Rajasthan and Jammu and Kashmir.
No fatality has been reported from Assam and Uttarakhand reported three deaths. No death has been reported from Puducherry and Jharkhand, whereas 16 deaths have been registered in Kerala.
