Gandhinagar: Saturday marked the 92nd anniversary of the famous Dandi Yatra by Mahatma Gandhi and his followers in 1930.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who is currently in Gujarat on a two-day visit, on Saturday paid tribute to Mahatma Gandhi and others who were part of the historic event.

“Tributes to Gandhi Ji and all those greats who marched to Dandi in order to protest injustice and protect our nation’s self-esteem,” he tweeted.

He also shared his speech from 2019 when he dedicated the National Salt Satyagraha Memorial in Dandi to the nation.

The Dandi Yatra, also known as Salt March, began on March 12, 1930. Bapu and his followers walked from Sabarmati Ashram in Ahmedabad to the coast of Dandi. They reached there on April 5.

On April 6, he symbolically broke the salt law, launching the Civil Disobedience movement.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah flagged off the ‘Dandi Cycle Yatra’ from Ahmedabad from Kochrab Ashram on Saturday.
