Gujarat has reported 116 fresh cases of the novel coronavirus in the last 24-hours ending at 6 pm on Wednesday taking the total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases to 766 in the state.
After two more deaths were reported from Gujarat on Tuesday, five fresh deaths were again reported on Wednesday that pushed the state’s death toll due to COVID-19 to 33. Out of the five deaths in the state, three deaths were reported from hospitals in Ahmedabad.
A 14-year-old girl died in SSG Hospital in Vadodara. She was suffering from brain-related ailments. This apart, a 45-year-old woman died in Metas Hospital in Surat due to the deadly virus. The woman was suffering from hypertension. A 50-year-old woman died in Ahmedabad Civil Hospital. A 65-year-old woman, who was also suffering from diabetes and lungs diseases, died in UN Mehta Hospital in Ahmedabad. Another 55-year-old woman with heart ailments died in Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel (SVP) Hospital.
Out of the 116 new cases, 77 cases are of Ahmedabad alone, whereas Surat reported nine fresh cases and Vadodara reported eight fresh cases. Anand has reported seven more cases and Rajkot reported six fresh cases. Panchmahals reported three more cases, whereas Narmada and Bharuch reported two cases each. Kheda and Botad reported one case each—the first COVID-19 cases of these districts.
With the addition of the 77 fresh cases till 6 pm on Wednesday, the total number of confirmed coronavirus cases in Ahmedabad has increased to 450—the highest in Gujarat. The city has also reported the maximum number of deaths in the state. After the three deaths reported on Wednesday, the death toll due to the deadly virus increased to 16 in Ahmedabad.
Apart from the 450 COVID-19 cases reported from Ahmedabad so far, Vadodara has reported 121 cases, followed by Surat with 51 cases and Bhavnagar with 26 cases. Rajkot has reported 24 cases, whereas the capital city of Gandhinagar reported 16 cases and Patan reported 14 cases. Bharuch has reported 13 cases, whereas the tribal district of Chhota Udepur and Panchmahals have each reported five cases and the coastal district of Porbandar reported three cases.
Anand has reported 17 cases of the virus and Kutch and Mehsana have each reported four cases. The districts of Dahod, Narmada, Banaskantha, and Gir-Somnath have each reported two cases, whereas Botad, Kheda, Jamnagar, Morbi, and Sabarkantha have each reported one case.
According to the Health Department, out of the total cases, six people are in a critical state and put on ventilator support, 663 people are stable, 64 people have been discharged, and 33 have died. Information made available by the department also provides that 699 cases out of the total 766 are incidents of local transmission, 33 people have a history of international travel, and 34 have a history of inter-state travel.
As far as deaths are concerned, apart from the 16 deaths reported in Ahmedabad, five deaths have been reported from the diamond city of Surat, five deaths have been reported from Vadodara. Bhavnagar is trailing Vadodara with three deaths and one death each has been reported from Gandhinagar, Jamnagar, Panchmahals, and Patan. Out of the 33 deaths, three had a history of international travel, three had a history of inter-state travel, and the rest 27 cases were incidents of local transmission.
So far, 15,147 people have been placed under quarantine.
