State police chief Shivanand Jha on Wednesday said that seven more paramilitary units have been allotted to Ahmedabad by the Centre to help in strict enforcement of the lockdown. Ahmedabad now has a total of 38 companies of state police and various paramilitary forces.
At a routine briefing, Jha said that the Centre has allotted six units of the Border Security Force (BSF) and one unit of the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF). In all 8 units of paramilitary forces will be stationed at different places particularly those that are in containment under red zones of the city. Two units of paramilitary in Vadodara and six units in Surat are stationed for lockdown enforcement as of now.
Jha also appealed to religious leaders in orange and green zones not to allow fairs and other such activities. He warned that the police will take strict action if assembling of crowds is allowed at religious places.
He informed that 155 cases of lockdown violation were detected with the help of drones in a day while the total detection of such violations have so far been 11,355. Eleven cases have been registered under the IT Act against people for spreading fake news and the total number of such cases are 667 in the state.
