7 fresh cases of COVID-19 in Ahmedabad push Gujarat’s COVID-19 tally to 95, death toll 8

The total number of confirmed coronavirus cases in Gujarat has increased to 95 till 10 am on Friday after seven fresh cases, all from Ahmedabad, were reported in the state in the last 24-hours. The death toll due to the deadly virus also increased to eight from the earlier seven, after a 78-year-old man from Godhra died in a hospital in Vadodara making it the second coronavirus-linked death in the city.

According to the health department, the deceased was suffering from lung disease and hypertension and was availing treatment at Savita Hospital in Vadodara. The seven fresh cases reported from Ahmedabad consist of four men and three women between 7 and 68 years.  While six of the fresh cases are incidents of local transmission, the remaining one has a history of travelling to Delhi. All the fresh cases have been admitted to Civil Hospital and Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel (SVP) Hospital in Ahmedabad.

Following the addition of the fresh cases, the total tally of coronavirus cases is highest in Ahmedabad. So far, 38 positive cases have been reported from Ahmedabad out of 698 people tested for the virus. The city has also recorded three deaths and the union government has already declared it as a coronavirus hotspot.

Surat has reported 12 cases so far, followed by 11 cases in Gandhinagar and 10 cases in Rajkot. Vadodara has reported nine cases of the virus, Bhavnagar seven cases, Porbandar three cases, and Gir-Somnath two cases. One case has been reported each from Kutch, Mehsana, and Panchmahals.

Apart from the three deaths reported in Ahmedabad and two deaths in Vadodara, two deaths have been reported in Bhavnagar and one death has been reported from Surat.

In all, 1,944 cases have been tested for coronavirus across Gujarat, whereas 10 confirmed cases that had tested negative for the virus twice in 24 hours have been discharged after following the set guidelines.  Two people who are under active treatment for the virus in the state have been put on a ventilator.

The health department also informed that 16,015 people have been kept under quarantine till Friday and 418 FIRs have been registered for violating the quarantine guidelines of the government.
