Seven confirmed cases of coronavirus have been reported from Gujarat. Three cases have been reported from Ahmedabad, two cases have been reported from Vadodara, and one case each has been reported from Surat and Rajkot.

In what could be a major cause of concern for the Gujarat government as well as citizens, seven confirmed cases of the highly-contagious coronavirus have been reported from the state. The spike in the cases comes within 24 hours of the Gujarat government revealing that two positive cases of the virus have been reported from Rajkot and Surat.

According to Gujarat Health Department, seven positive cases of the virus have been found in the state. While three positive cases have been reported from Ahmedabad, two positive cases have been reported from Vadodara and one positive case has been reported each from Surat and Rajkot. The infected persons have recently returned from countries such as the US, the UK, Spain, etc.

“All five cases have returned to Gujarat from abroad. It is a big relief that all the confirmed cases are below 35 years. As per the latest report, they are all stable and kept in isolation,” health secretary Jayanti Ravi had earlier said in the morning when the total number of positive cases in the state was five.

Notably, around 150 samples have been tested so far and seven samples have tested positive.

The health secretary also urged people coming from abroad to follow home quarantine for 14 days. “People coming from abroad should strictly follow home quarantine for 14 days. In case of any violation by anyone, a complaint can be registered on the helpline number 104 or people can contact the collector office for the same,” she said.

She also informed that senior citizens with existing ailments are at greater risk in the present scenario and therefore, they should remain at home and avoid any unnecessary travel. The health secretary also requested citizens to cooperate with the government and follow social distancing to contain the spread of coronavirus.

Meanwhile, the Gujarat government has already initiated several steps including the closure of major temples, amusement parks, etc. The government has also initiated through screening of passengers entering Gujarat from neighbouring states on private buses, whereas government bus services to neighbouring states have been discontinued.

As far as the coronavirus burden on the country is concerned, the total number of confirmed coronavirus cases in the country has touched 223 by 5 pm on Friday.

This apart, all pan shops in Ahmedabad have been closed and a ban has been imposed on the sale of tobacco. Authorities are trying to strictly implement the ban. Also, Section 144 has been imposed in the districts of Ahmedabad, Vadodara, Surat, Rajkot, and Arvalli.
