67,208 COVID-19 cases, 2,330 deaths reported in India in a days


The health ministry on Thursday informed that over 67,208 fresh cases of COVID-19 have been reported in India in the past 24 hours. The addition of the fresh cases has taken the COVID-19 case tally past 2.97 crore.

The ministry also informed that over 26.55 crore COVID-19 jabs have been administered so far. Of it, over 34.63 lakh people were vaccinated on Wednesday.

India has already surpassed Brazil in terms of cases. It is now the second-worst hit nation due to the coronavirus pandemic after the US.

3.81 lakh deaths due to COVID-19

Also, 2,330 COVID-19 related deaths were reported by the ministry during this period. The addition of the fresh fatalities has taken India’s death toll due to the deadly virus to 3,81,903

Previously, the death toll had touched 4,529-mark on May 19.

Over 2.84 crore patients recovered

Of the over 2.97 crore coronavirus cases reported so far, over 8.26 lakh are active cases of the virus. It is 2.78 per cent of the total caseload. Over 2.84 crore cases have recovered from the viral infection so far.

Thus, the country’s recovery rate stands at 95.93 per cent. The recovery rate had marginally dipped for the first time on August 27, 2020, because of the surge in active cases. It again dropped marginally on September 7, 10 and 11, and on November 25, 26 and 27 due to a surge in cases. It also dipped on February 21, 22, 25, 26, 27, 28 and is dipping throughout the month of March, April and May. However, the recovery rate has again started improving from May 10 onwards.

Over 38.52 crore samples tested

So far, as per the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), over 38.52 crore samples for COVID-19 have been tested in the country. Of the total samples tested, 22.17 lakh samples were tested on May 25. Notably, it is the highest number of samples tested in a day. The second-highest number of over 21.59 lakh samples was tested on June 2. Over 19.31 lakh samples were tested on June 16.

2,330 deaths in a day

Of the 2,330 deaths reported in a day, 1,236 deaths are from Maharashtra, 270 from Tamil Nadu and 148 from Karnataka. Fifty-seven deaths have been reported from Andhra Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh reported 49 deaths and West Bengal reported 69 deaths. Gujarat reported five deaths and Madhya Pradesh reported 34 deaths. Delhi reported 25 deaths. Punjab reported 48 deaths.

Forty-four deaths have been registered from Odisha and Rajasthan along with Bihar reported nine deaths each. Twelve deaths have been reported from Jammu and Kashmir and Telangana reported 11 deaths.

Thirty-six fatalities have been reported from Assam. Uttarakhand reported 12 deaths, whereas Jharkhand reported three deaths. Puducherry reported six deaths and 147 deaths have been registered in Kerala.
