The Gujarat government in a release said that close to 64,000 people were shifted to shelters from the coastal areas of the state as a precautionary measure against Cylcone Nisarga. Of these, 9,000 were moved from Surat, 14,000 from Navsari, 3,000 in Bhavnagar, 2,000 in Amreli, 1,200 in Bharuch, 769 in Anand and 33,680 in Valsad among others. Among those shifted, 252 were pregnant ladies. It said that 18 teams of NDRF and six teams of SDRF have been deployed to deal with any untoward incident and that 17 lakh people have been sent an SMS warning them of the storm. 338 shelters have been set up to accommodate the evacuated person.
Gujarat had been bracing for Cyclone Nisarga but thankfully it escaped after the cyclone made a landfall near Alibaugh in Maharashtra. No deaths or other untoward incidents were reported from the state so far. Several districts of South Gujarat including Valsad and Navsari recorded good rains due to the cyclone.
