In 27 days, 567 passengers test +ve at Kalupur Railway Station in Ahmedabad

In all 567 passengers who returned to Ahmedabad via the railways have tested positive for COVID-19 in the last 27 days. The AMC has set up a facility for rapid antigen tests at the Kalupur Railway station to prevent infected passengers from turning into super spreaders.

The AMC began testing passengers who arrive at the Kalupur Railway station from September 7 onwards. The Kalupur Railway Station sees three regular trains arriving every day, and all the passengers alighting at the station are mandatorily tested for COVID-19.

The three trains that regularly ferry passengers to Ahmedabad’s Kalupur Railway Station every day are Rajdhani Express, Muzaffarpur Express and Gorakhpur Express. So far, over 42,000 passengers from these three trains have been tested up to October 3. Of this, 567 have tested positive.

The passengers who test positive are moved to the Sabarmati Railway Station’s COVID-19 positive centre. Those whose condition worsen are referred to COVID-19 care hospitals.

Those who are asymptomatic or show mild symptoms are advised home quarantine. The civic body also does regular follow up with all the patients who test positive.

Of the three trains, the highest number of COVID-19 positive patients were found in Rajdhani Express, which comes from Delhi.

COVID-19 in Gujarat

Gujarat has reported 1,302 fresh cases of COVID-19 in the past 24 hours ending 5 pm on Sunday. The addition of the fresh cases has taken Gujarat’s total tally to 1,42,700.

Nine deaths were reported in the state in the past 24 hours. The fresh fatalities have taken Gujarat’s COVID-19 related death toll to 3,499.

While four deaths have been reported from Surat, three deaths have been reported from Ahmedabad. The districts of Rajkot and Vadodara have reported one death each.

Of the 1,302 fresh cases reported on Sunday, 283 cases have been reported from Surat, 191 cases have been reported from Ahmedabad, 133 cases have been reported from Vadodara, and 60 cases have been reported from the state capital Gandhinagar.
