After many areas in different districts went into voluntary lockdown as COVID-19 cases saw a surge, it was the turn of certain societies in Ahmedabad city to opt for it.
In Ahmedabad Ranip areas, residents of Radhaswami Road have declared a voluntary lockdown for 10 days. The announcement comes after six residents succumbed to the illness in a week.
Posters announcing the voluntary lockdown have also come up in the area. In all, 50 societies on the Radhaswami Road have participated in the lockdown voluntarily. As a result, shops in the area have also downed the shutters.
COVID-19 in Gujarat
It should be noted that Gujarat on Sunday recorded 919 positive cases. It is the second time in many days that the COVID-19 cases have dipped below 1000.
The state recorded seven fatalities due to the disease. While three deaths have been reported from Ahmedabad, two deaths have been reported from Surat. The districts of Patan and Vadodara have reported one death each.
The total number of COVID-19 cases in the state has crossed 1.67 lakh while over 3,600 people have succumbed to the illness.
Over 1.49 lakh people have been cured of which 963 were discharged in the last 24 hours.
Ahmedabad recorded 174 new cases in the last 24 hours.
