Even as the state and city struggle to contain the number of COVID-19 cases, new cases continue to be reported.
The city has in the last 24 hours reported 163 new cases and 2 fatalities while the number of active cases continues to be 2,955.
Meanwhile, an old age home has reported several of its residents turning COVID-19 positive. Jeevan Sandhya, an old age home in Naranpura has reported 49 positive cases among its 160 residents. The civic body has declared it as a micro containment zone.
Ahmedabad city has so far reported 38,861 cases while the total fatalities stand at 1,868.
The detection of COVID-19 in an old age home has got the civic body worried since senior citizens are more vulnerable. The civic body had recently declared seven new micro containment zones in the city and removed five others. The total number of micro containment zones stand at 105.
Most of the recently declared micro containment zones in Ahmedabad are in South and North West Zones. These include apartments in Kubernagar, Bodakdev, Memnagar, Thaltej, Ghodasar and Naranpura.
COVID-19 in Gujarat
Gujarat has in all reported 1,64,121 up to Thursday with 1136 new cases being recorded.
The state also saw 7 fatalities due to the disease during the same period. Of these, three were in Ahmedabad and two in Rajkot. One each was recorded in Chhota Udepur and Surat.
Of the total deaths in Surat and Ahmedabad, two were in AMC and one in SMC limits. With this, the Gujarat COVID-19 fatalities stand at 3,670.
The addition of three fatalities reported in the past 24 hours has taken the death toll due to COVID-19 in Ahmedabad district to 1,885.
