A 40-year-old man died at a hospital in Rajasthan, Kota after his family members allegedly unplugged the ventilator he was on to plug in an air cooler. Media reports said the man, a COVID-19 positive suspect patient, had been in the ICU at the Maharao Bhim Singh (MBS) Hospital since June 13. He was shifted to an isolation ward after another patient in the ICU tested positive. His own report had been negative.
Media reports said the man’s family came to visit him and brought with them an air cooler as his room was very hot. On finding no socket for the cooler, they allegedly unplugged the ventilator but almost half-an-hour later, the ventilator ran out of power.
The family informed the doctors who administered CPR but he could not be saved. A three-member committee has been formed to probe the incident.
The committee said the family is not co-operating in the probe. The hospital has alleged that after the patient died they misbehaved with the doctor on duty.
