At a time when the number of coronavirus cases in Gujarat is increasing rapidly, especially in cities like Ahmedabad and Vadodara, four fresh cases of the virus were reported from Bharuch. Interestingly, these are the first four cases being reported from the districts and all the four persons who have tested positive are members of the Tablighi Jamaat.
Sources said the four positive cases have a travel history of Tamil Nadu where they had gone to attend a Tablighi Jamaat meet. Notably, after their return, they had come in contact with religious gatherings in 10 mosques in the area. All the positive cases have been kept at the coronavirus ward in Bharuch’s Civil Hospital, where six others have been placed under quarantine.
After the four cases come to the fore, teams from the local administration are busy in tracking down people who have come in contact with them.
Notably, over 1,500 cases of coronavirus in the country were found to be linked to the religious congregation organised by the Tablighi Jamaat at Nizamuddin Markaz in New Delhi. Authorities have been requesting people who had attended the meeting to come forward and get tested. The Home Ministry has also ordered the state governments to register FIRs against 960 people linked to the Tablighi Jamaat meet for violation of the coronavirus lockdown guidelines.
