- Pistols, magazines recovered from the encounter site
Srinagar: Four terrorists, including a foreign militant, were killed in an encounter in Hyderpora area of Srinagar on Monday evening, the Jammu and Kashmir police said on Tuesday.
Besides the foreigner, identified as Haider, his local associate as well as an over-ground worker (OGW) named Mudasir Ahmed and a building owner were arrested, Kashmir IGP Vijay Kumar said.
According to Kumar, building owner Altaf Ahmed was killed in the crossfire.
Mudasir Ahmed had provided his rented space to Haider to be used as a militant hideout, Kumar said.
“Police, CRPF and the Army laid a cordon and when the suspected spot was zeroed in on, militants fired indiscriminately at the forces,” said Kumar.
Haider and his local associate were killed in the encounter.
As to whose bullet killed Altaf Ahmed, it is not clear, Kumar said.
The IGP added that Altaf Ahmed was involved in ferrying terrorists from south and north Kashmir areas.
Two pistols, two magazines and six cell phones were recovered from the spot.
A special investigation team (SIT) will be formed to look into the modus operandi of the hi-tech hideout, Kumar said.
Meanwhile, there have been allegations that this encounter was fake. Mudasir’s family has refuted the police’s charges and claimed that he was not involved in any militant activities. Altaf Ahmed’s family, too, has said he was not a militant and was used as a human shield.
