India reports 37,566 COVID-19 cases, 907 deaths in a day

The health ministry on Tuesday informed that 37,566 fresh cases of COVID-19 have been reported in India in the past 24 hours. The addition of the fresh cases has taken the COVID-19 case tally past 3.03 crore. It is the lowest single-day surge in cases in a day in the past 3 months.

The ministry also informed that over 32.90 crore COVID-19 jabs have been administered so far. Of it, over 52.76 lakh people were vaccinated on Monday.

India has already surpassed Brazil in terms of cases. It is now the second-worst hit nation due to the coronavirus pandemic after the US.

3.97 lakh deaths due to COVID-19

Also, 907 COVID-19 related deaths were reported by the ministry during this period. The addition of the fresh fatalities has taken India’s death toll due to the deadly virus to 3,97,637.

Previously, the death toll had touched 4,529-mark on May 19.

Over 2.93 crore patients recovered

Of the over 3.03 crore coronavirus cases reported so far, over 5.52 lakh are active cases of the virus. It is 1.82 per cent of the total caseload. Over 2.93 crore cases have recovered from the viral infection so far.

Thus, the country’s recovery rate stands at 96.87 per cent. The recovery rate had marginally dipped for the first time on August 27, 2020, because of the surge in active cases. It again dropped marginally on September 7, 10 and 11, and on November 25, 26 and 27 due to a surge in cases. It also dipped on February 21, 22, 25, 26, 27, 28 and is dipping throughout the month of March, April and May. However, the recovery rate has again started improving from May 10 onwards.

Over 40.81 crore samples tested

So far, as per the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), over 40.81 crore samples for COVID-19 have been tested in the country. Of the total samples tested, 22.17 lakh samples were tested on May 25. Notably, it is the highest number of samples tested in a day. The second-highest number of over 21.59 lakh samples was tested on June 2. Over 17.68 lakh samples were tested on June 28.

907 deaths in a day

Of the 907 deaths reported in a day, 287 deaths are from Maharashtra, 98 from Tamil Nadu and 93 from Karnataka. Thirty-one deaths have been reported from Andhra Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh reported 41 deaths and West Bengal reported 32 deaths. Gujarat reported three deaths and Madhya Pradesh reported 19 deaths. Delhi reported two deaths. Punjab reported 20 deaths.

Forty-three deaths have been registered from Odisha, Rajasthan reported two deaths and Bihar reported four deaths. Six deaths have been reported from Jammu and Kashmir and Telangana reported nine deaths.

Forty-two fatalities have been reported from Assam. Uttarakhand reported four deaths, whereas Jharkhand reported no death. Puducherry reported one death and 110 deaths have been registered in Kerala.
