Gujarat registered 371 new cases of COVID-19 on Thursday in the last 24 hours taking the total number of such cases in the state to 12,910.
Of the total number of cases, the highest was recorded from Ahmedabad which saw 233 such cases. The district has been consistently recording over 200 cases for more than two weeks now. The second-highest number of cases for the day was recorded from Surat (34) and Vadodara (24). The state capital Gandhinagar also recorded five new cases.
The total number of deaths recorded in the last 24 hours is 24 of which 18 deaths happened due to co-morbid conditions. With this the total death toll in the state due to the disease now stands at 773. Of the total 24 deaths, 17 were in Ahmedabad alone while 3 was in Vadodara. Surat, Anand, Kheda and Mehsana registered one death each.
Ahmedabad continues to have the highest number of cases in the state with a total of 9,449 and a death toll of 619. The second-highest number of cases are in Surat that has 1,227 such cases. The death toll in the district is 57, also the second-highest in the state. Vadodara, which ranks third, has 750 cases and 35 deaths.
Gujarat has recorded the third-highest number of cases in the country next only to Maharashtra and Tamil Nadu.
