India reports 30,093 COVID-19 cases, 374 deaths in a day


The health ministry on Tuesday informed that 30,093 fresh cases of COVID-19 have been reported in India in the past 24 hours. The addition of the fresh cases has taken the COVID-19 case tally past 3.11 crore. It is the lowest daily surge in COVID-19 cases in the past four months.

The ministry also informed that over 41.18 crore COVID-19 jabs have been administered so far. Of it, over 52.67 lakh people were vaccinated on Monday.

India has already surpassed Brazil in terms of cases. It is now the second-worst hit nation due to the coronavirus pandemic after the US.

Over 4.14 lakh deaths due to COVID-19

Also, 374 COVID-19 related deaths were reported by the ministry during this period. The addition of the fresh fatalities has taken India’s death toll due to the deadly virus to 4,14,482. It is the lowest daily surge in death toll in the past four months.

Previously, the death toll had touched 4,529-mark on May 19.

Over 3.03 crore patients recovered

Of the over 3.11 crore coronavirus cases reported so far, over 4.06 lakh are active cases of the virus. It is 1.35 per cent of the total caseload. Over 3.03 crore cases have recovered from the viral infection so far.

Thus, the country’s recovery rate stands at 97.32 per cent. The recovery rate had marginally dipped for the first time on August 27, 2020, because of the surge in active cases. It again dropped marginally on September 7, 10 and 11, and on November 25, 26 and 27 due to a surge in cases. It also dipped on February 21, 22, 25, 26, 27, 28 and is dipping throughout the month of March, April and May. However, the recovery rate again started improving from May 10 onwards.

Over 44.73 crore samples tested

So far, as per the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), over 44.73 crore samples for COVID-19 have been tested in the country. Of the total samples tested, 22.17 lakh samples were tested on May 25. Notably, it is the highest number of samples tested in a day. The second-highest number of over 21.59 lakh samples was tested on June 2. Over 17.92 lakh samples were tested on July 19.

374 deaths in a day

Of the 374 deaths reported in a day, 180 deaths are from Maharashtra, 29 from Tamil Nadu and 36 from Karnataka. Seventeen deaths have been reported from Andhra Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh reported four deaths and West Bengal reported 11 deaths. Gujarat reported no death while Madhya Pradesh reported no death. Delhi reported no death. Punjab reported nine deaths.

Sixty-six deaths have been registered from Odisha, Rajasthan reported one death and Bihar reported two deaths. One death has been reported from Jammu and Kashmir and Telangana reported three deaths.

Fifteen fatalities have been reported from Assam. Uttarakhand and Jharkhand reported no death. Puducherry reported two death and 81 deaths have been registered in Kerala.
