The Geological Survey of India has found about 3,000 tonnes of goldmine in Sonbhadra district of Uttar Pradesh. It is being claimed that this gold mine is almost five times more than the current gold reserves with India.

District Mining Officer KK Rai said that gold deposits have been found in Son Pahadi and Hardi areas. He said that the work of locating the gold reserves was going on for the last two decades. The auction process will be started soon through e-tendering of these blocks. Rai said that apart from gold, other mineral substances have also been found in the area. According to the World Gold Council, India currently has 626 tonnes of gold reserves. The new gold reserves are about five times that. Its estimated value is about 12 lakh crore rupees.

A seven-member team has been constituted for geo-tagging of mineral sites, whose report will be submitted to Lucknow by 22 February. Officials say the mineral-rich mines of Sonbhadra are easy to dig due to their geographical position. The mines are mostly situated on hillock, which makes them easy to mine. The government will start the auction process as soon as compensation payout and necessary approvals are granted.
