3 more Tablighi Jamaat members who attended Delhi meet tracked down in Gujarat

The Gujarat Police has so far traced three more members of the Tablighi Jamaat who had returned to the state after attending the religious congregation at Delhi’s Nizamuddin Markaz. All three persons identified are from Bhavnagar and one of them has tested positive for COVID-19.

Following the identification of the three members of the religious sect in Bhavnagar, the total number of persons who had returned to Gujarat after attending the religious congregation in Delhi and later tracked down by the Gujarat Police has increased to 130.

Director General of Police (DGP) Shivanand Jha on Friday said 13 people out of the 130 have tested positive for the virus, whereas the remaining have been kept under quarantine. He also informed that four people from Bharuch who are linked to a religious sect and had a travel history of Tamil Nadu have also tested positive for the virus.

The top cop during the daily presser also informed that Gujarat police is making use of technology including CCTV surveillance, drone surveillance, and Automatic Number Plate Recognition software to track down people who are loitering on the streets without any reason and violating the lockdown guidelines. He said police are registering FIRs against those found guilty of violating lockdown guidelines.

He also urged citizens not to exploit the relaxations given for essential services.

Over 4,669 FIRs have been registered in the state since the implementation of the lockdown and 6,982 people have been booked. The total figure includes FIRs registered for violation of lockdown notification, quarantine violation, and other crimes.

This apart, the police have also seized 3,862 vehicles for violation of the lockdown.
