Shopian: The Indian Army and J&K police neutralized three terrorists from the Laskhar-e-Taiba (LeT) early on Tuesday morning following a night-long operation.
One of the terrorists had killed a street vendor, Virendra Paswan, from Bihar at Madina Chowk in Srinagar last week.
Talking to media, Inspector General Vijay Kumar said that the terrorist had been identifed as Muhtar Shah of Ganderbal who had shifted to Shopian after killing the street hawker.
The encounter had begun at Tulran, Imamsahab area of Shopian. According to sources, the terrorists were first trapped, after which the police had aked them to surrender. But an encounter broke out when they refused to do so.
Arms and ammunition were also recovered from the militants.
Encounters this week
On Monday, a terrorist named Imtiyaz Ahmad Dar, accused of killing civilians in J&K, was eliminated by the armed forces in Bandipora.
Five soldiers, including a junior commissioner officer (JCO), were killed when heavily armed militants opened fire at them in Poonch on Monday. They were injured criticaly and succumbed to their injuries later.
