Over 3.82 lakh COVID cases, 3,780 deaths in India in a day


The health ministry on Wednesday informed that over 3.82 lakh fresh cases of COVID-19 have been reported in India in the past 24 hours. The addition of the fresh cases has taken the COVID-19 case tally past 2.06 crore.

The ministry also informed that over 16.04 crore COVID-19 jabs have been administered so far. Of it, over 14.84 lakh people were vaccinated on Tuesday.

India has already surpassed Brazil in terms of cases. It is now the second-worst hit nation due to the coronavirus pandemic after the US.

2.26 lakh deaths due to COVID-19

Also, 3,780 COVID-19 related deaths were reported by the ministry during this period. The addition of the fresh fatalities has taken India’s death toll due to the deadly virus to 2,26,188. It is the highest number of deaths reported in a day since the pandemic began last year.

Previously, the death toll had touched 3,645-mark on April 29.

1.69 crore patients recovered

Of the over 2.06 crore coronavirus cases reported so far, over 34.87 lakh are active cases of the virus. It is 16.87 per cent of the total caseload. Interestingly, over 1.69 crore cases have recovered from the viral infection so far.

Thus, the country’s recovery rate stands at 82.03 per cent. The recovery rate had marginally dipped for the first time on August 27, 2020, because of the surge in active cases. It again dropped marginally on September 7, 10 and 11, and on November 25, 26 and 27 due to a surge in cases. It also dipped on February 21, 22, 25, 26, 27, 28 and is dipping throughout the month of March, April and May.

Over 29.48 crore samples tested

So far, as per the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), over 29.48 crore samples for COVID-19 have been tested in the country. Of the total samples tested, 19.20 lakh samples were tested on April 29. Notably, it is the highest number of samples tested in a day. The second-highest number of over 18.04 lakh samples was tested on May 02. Over 15.41 lakh samples were tested on May 3.

3,780 deaths in a day

Of the 3,780 deaths reported in a day, 891 deaths are from Maharashtra, 144 from Tamil Nadu and 288 from Karnataka. Eighty-two deaths have been reported from Andhra Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh reported 351 deaths and West Bengal reported 107 deaths. Gujarat reported 131 deaths and Madhya Pradesh reported 98 deaths. Delhi reported 338 deaths. Punjab reported 173 deaths.

Fifteen deaths have been registered from Odisha and Rajasthan reported 154 deaths, whereas Bihar reported 105 deaths. Thirty-seven deaths have been reported from Jammu and Kashmir and Telangana reported 51 deaths.

Forty-one fatalities have been reported from Assam. Uttarakhand reported 85 deaths, whereas Jharkhand reported 132 deaths. Puducherry reported 17 deaths and 57 deaths have been registered in Kerala.
