Cadila Pharmaceuticals, shut down its manufacturing unit in Dholka in Ahmedabad after 26 employees of the plant tested positive for coronavirus. Sources said that earlier five employees had tested positive while 21 others tested positive this week. The plant is located near Trasad road in Dholka.
The new 21 cases were those that had tested positive following contact tracing of earlier cases. All the new cases were of people who lived in Ahmedabad. The affected have been moved to Sola Civil Hospital.
The local administration swung into action and shut down the site and quarantined 95 of the remaining employees.
Cadila Pharmaceuticals in a statement said, “Recently, 26 of our employees from our Dholka manufacturing facility tested positive for COVID-19. Following this, we have closed our operations on our own.”
The company also said it is cooperating with the local administration to ensure the safety and security of its facility and surroundings. Ahmedabad is one of the worst affected Covid19 districts of Gujarat.
