The lockdown is turning worst for migrant workers day by day. Many workers are traveling back to their villages by road, by rail and many paddling in search of safe shelter at their natives. There are many reports of migrant laborers dying continuously on roads since the lockdown has started. The latest news has come from Auraiya of Uttar Pradesh where migrating workers lost their lives in a gruesome road accident.
According to the information received, 24 workers have died in Auraiya road accident. Riding in the truck, these workers were migrating from Haryana and Rajasthan to their villages. Most of the workers are said to be from West Bengal, Jharkhand and Bihar. Many of them are have seriously injured. Officials of the Uttar Pradesh government stated that the painful accident happened due to a collision between two trucks early this morning.
The migrant laborers were riding in a truck filled with sacks of wheat flour. The accident happened around 3 am when another truck rammed into this truck standing outside a dhaba. CM Yogi Adityanath has also taken cognizance of this incident. Expressing his condolences for the deceased in this incident, he has given instructions for immediate treatment of the injured and has also sought a report from IG Kanpur on the entire incident.
It’s not death it’s Murder: Akhilesh Yadav
Samajwadi Party President Akhilesh Yadav has expressed anger over the death of nearly two dozen migrant laborers in a fierce collision between trucks. He called it murder. He also announced a compensation of one lakh rupees for the families of the deceased.
Expressing sorrow over the road accident, the SP President has written on his Twitter handle that by knowing everything, even seeing everything, the heartless people and their supporters see silence and how long they will justify this neglect. Such accidents are not deaths but murders.
PM Modi Expressed Condolence
Prime Minister Modi tweeted, ‘Government is engaged in relief work. I express my condolences to the families of those killed in this accident, as well as wish the injured as soon as possible. ‘
A truck and DCM collided on Saturday in Auraiya district. 24 workers were killed in this accident, while 36 others were injured. Regional Officer (CO) Surendranath Yadav told that this incident is of Mehauli of Auraiya Kotwali area. 50 laborers hailing from Jharkhand, Bhadohi, Kushinagar, West Bengal were sitting on top of a truck. He further said that 24 people have died so far due to being stuck in the sacks. 36 people are injured in this accident. In this, 21 people are being treated in the district hospital. The remaining 15 people have been referred to Saifai hospital and 6 people are all right. They are kept safely in a guest house.
Declaration of two lakhs to the families of the deceased
Apart from this, taking cognizance of the incident, the Chief Minister has announced a compensation of Rs 2 lakh each to the deceased family and Rs 50-50 thousand to the injured.
