After drones were used in the terror attack on the Jammu Air Force base, two drones were spotted in the intervening night of June 27-28 by Army jawans near the Kaluchak military station in Jammu. The first drone was sighted at 11.30 pm and the second, around 1.30 am.

According to the Army, the drones flew away after they came under fire from alert jawans. “On midnight of 27-28 June 2021, two separate drone activities were spotted over Ratnuchak-Kaluchak Military area by alert troops. Immediately, a high alert was sounded and Quick Reaction Teams engaged them with firing.  Both the Drones flew away,” said the Army statement.

“A major threat thwarted by the alertness and proactive approach of troops. The security forces are on high alert and the search operation is in progress,” it added. The army personnel fired around 20-25 rounds at the drones before they escaped under the cover of darkness. A large-scale search is underway inside the Kaluchak military station to locate the two drones.

A high alert has been sounded in the Jammu area, particularly in Army stations, and investigation is underway.

Drone strike

The incident comes a day after the drone strike on the Air Force Station Jammu. In a first-of-its-kind attack, drones were used to drop explosives into the high-security technical area of the Jammu airport. Two blasts took place in the early hours of Sunday; one ripped a hole in the roof of a building, while the other explosion was on the ground in an open space.

Two Indian Air Force (IAF) personnel were injured in the explosions that took place around 1.40 am, within six minutes of each other. The Jammu & Kashmir Police and the National Investigation Agency (NIA) are probing the terror strike. Two suspects have been detained in connection with the case, according to media reports.
