17 staff of Gujarat high court test COVID-19 positive, functioning suspended up to Sept 15


Seventeen employees of the Gujarat High Court have tested positive so far for COVID-19. The AMC has also decided to completely sanitise the premises.

Earlier the High Court was to start physical functioning from September 14 onwards but now it will begin from September 16 onwards. The employees tested positive after the AMC carried out an antigen test.


The high court premises will be shut down for the sanitisation process. The sanitisation will be carried out in the courts, chambers, offices, record room, bank, post offices, and even the judicial academy in the premises.

Initially, four employees had tested positive and then two. Later during the antigen test on Wednesday 11 had tested positive. It should be noted that since the lockdown in March, the High court has been hearing cases through video conferencing.

The Gujarat high court in a notice said both physical and virtual functions of the court will remain suspended from September 12 to 15.

COVID-19 in Gujarat

Gujarat COVID-19 figures on Wednesday touched 1,08,295 as the state recorded 1,329 new cases. The state also saw 16 fatalities due to the disease. Of this, four were in Surat and Ahmedabad each. Rajkot, Gandhinagar and Vadodara recorded two deaths each while Mahisagar and Surendranagar had one fatality each.

The addition of four fatalities reported in the past 24 hours has taken the death toll due to COVID-19 in Ahmedabad to 1,745.

Netas in Ahmedabad also fall prey to COVID-19

Ahmedabad has been consistently recording over 170 cases every day. On Wednesday, Dinesh Makwana, Ahmedabad Deputy Mayor too tested positive for COVID-19. So far over 25 corporators of the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) have tested positive for the disease.

Two corporators Badruddin Sheikh and Gayaprasad have succumbed to the disease. Four MLAs from Ahmedabad- Imran Khedawala, Jagdish Panchal, Kishor Chauhan and Balram Thavani- have also tested positive for the disease.

Two MPs from Ahmedabad Dr Kirit Solanki and Hasmukh Patel have also tested positive for the disease.
