Fifteen migrant workers on their way home to Madhya Pradesh by foot were killed after being run over by a goods train in Aurangabad on Friday. The workers were on their way from Jalna to Bhusawal in Madhya Pradesh, media reports said. The workers were walking along the tracks and slept on the same after stopping to rest. They were run over by a train in the early morning.
Two others who were injured were rushed to a hospital while three others escaped as they were sleeping away from the tracks. The Ministry of Railways tweeted, saying the loco pilot of goods train, after seeing some labourers on the track, tried to stop the wagon but eventually hit them between Badnapur and Karmad stations in Parbhani-Manmad section. “The injured have been taken to Aurangabad Civil Hospital. Inquiry has been ordered,” the tweet read.
The nationwide lockdown has forced thousands of migrants stranded in different states to head for their home on foot as thousands scramble to get access to buses and trains. The Railways have been running Shramik special trains to ferry migrant workers to their native states.
