In an unfortunate incident, 14 people were killed after a bus and truck collided on a national highway in Andhra Pradesh’s Kurnool on Sunday. The deceased were on a pilgrimage tour.
There were 18 people travelling in the bus and only four children have survived the accident. However, two of them are serious and availing treatment in the hospital.
The accident took place near a village in Veldurti Mandal of the state’s Kurnool district. The minibus, which was carrying 18 people, hit the road divider at a high speed, fell over the divider and collided with a lorry coming from the opposite direction, on the other side of the road.
“There were 18 people in the vehicle at the time of the accident. The accident took place around 4 am at Veldurti Mandal, near Madapuram, about 25 km from Kurnool,” Kurnool police chief K Fakirappa said.
Preliminary investigation suggests that the driver of the bus apparently lost control and the vehicle first crashed against the road median and then rolled to the other side of the road hitting a lorry, an official said.
