13 fresh cases of COVID-19 reported from Ahmedabad in 12-hour, Gujarat’s tally touches165

The total number of confirmed coronavirus cases in Gujarat on Tuesday increased to 165 after 19 fresh cases of the virus—all incidents of local transmission—were reported in the past 12-hours. The total tally was 146 at 8 pm on Monday and it is expected to rise rapidly. No new death has been reported on Tuesday till 10 am and the state’s death toll stands at 12.

Of the 19 fresh cases, Ahmedabad alone reported 13 cases. Patan has reported three fresh cases, whereas Sabarkantha and Anand reported one case each—the first cases in these districts. Bhavnagar also has reported one more fresh case of the virus.

With the addition of the fresh cases, Ahmedabad is at the top of the tally with 77 positive cases, followed by Surat with 19 cases. Bhavnagar has reported 14 cases of COVID-19 and Gandhinagar is closely following with 13 cases, whereas Vadodara has reported 12 cases. Rajkot is closely trailing Vadodara with 10 cases, followed by Patan with five cases. Kutch, Mehsana, and Gir-Somnath, have each reported two cases, whereas the coastal district of Porbandar reported three cases. Panchmahals, Jamnagar, Sabarkantha, Anand, Morbi, and Chhota Udepur have reported one case each.

As far as deaths are concerned, Ahmedabad is again ruling the list with five deaths so far, followed by two deaths each in Surat, Vadodara, and Bhavnagar. Panchmahals has reported one death.

According to the state health department, 33 persons who have travelled to the state from abroad have tested positive for coronavirus, whereas 32 other positive cases have a history of inter-state travel. Apart from these, there are 100 cases of local transmission out of the total 165 cases—a major cause of concern for the health authorities as it is difficult to trace people who have come in contact with them.

The state government has also informed that out of the total tally, four people are on ventilators and in a critical condition, whereas 126 people under active treatment are stable. Twenty-three persons who have tested negative for coronavirus twice within a span of 24-hours have been discharged after successful treatment till 10 am on Tuesday.

There is also a reduction in the number of people under quarantine. The government informed that 11,286 people are under quarantine as of Tuesday and 418 FIRs have been registered for violation of the quarantine protocols.
