The country recorded 127 deaths due to Covid19 in the last 24 hours, data released by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare revealed. With this the total number of fatalities due to the disease stands at 2,109.
The country also recorded 3,277 new cases taking the total number of such cases to 62,939. The active cases stand at 41,472. The 127 deaths was the second-biggest spike in a 24-hour period in India. The total number of cases also include 111 foreign nationals.
Of the 2,109 fatalities, Maharashtra tops the tally with 779 deaths followed by Gujarat (472), Madhya Pradesh (215) and West Bengal(171).
In terms of number of cases Maharashtra (20,228 cases), Gujarat (7,796), Tamil Nadu (6,535) and Delhi (6,542) are among the worst affected states.
The testing capacity for COVID-19 in the country has been ramped up to around 95,000 tests per day, Union Health Minister Harsh Vardhan had said earlier. And so far a total of over 15 lakh tests have been conducted to detect coronavirus.
