A single battalion of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) now has 122 positive cases, officials informed on Saturday. The CRPF battalion, which has now been sealed, is based in Mayur Vihar Phase 111 in Delhi. Officials said the results of over 100 more personnel are still awaited and that almost all who tested positive are asymptomatic. The infected personnel have been admitted to an isolation facility in Mandoli.
It is believed that the personnel could have been infected by a nursing assistant who had joined duty after being on leave. The assistant had gone to his home in the NCR. It is also suspected that quarantine norms were violated and the nursing assistant was not kept under strict vigil leading to further spread of the disease among others.
Of the 122 Covid19 cases reported, 12 cases were found to be positive on Friday evening.
Officials suspect that an order allowing doctors and paramedics to be taken off duty if they did not show any symptoms could have exacerbated the situation. The paramilitary had earlier issued an order of mandatory 14-day quarantine for anyone returning to work after leave or suspected to have exposure to Covid19.
