The UP government has filed a case against Priyanka Gandhi’s secretary Sandeep Singh and Uttar Pradesh Congress Committee (UPCC) chief Ajay Kumar Lallu on the issue of providing buses for stranded migrants. The two have been booked for obstructing work of police and public servants.
Media reports quoted the police officials as saying that the complaint was filed after the party workers and UP Congress chief staged a dharna at the UP-Rajasthan border in Uncha Nangla. The dharna came after the buses the party had arranged to bring back migrants from Rajasthan were not allowed to enter UP. The cops said that as per the guidelines, the buses needed a pass to enter the state which they lacked and hence was prevented from entering.
A political slugfest has been going on between the Congress and the UP government over the Opposition party’s arrangement of 1,000 buses for the stranded migrant labourers. Priyanka Gandhi who had offered to run 1,000 buses to take stranded workers home, had accused the UP government of putting hurdles in the way and crossing all limits. The UP government in return has accused the Congress leader of “fraud” by sending a list of buses in which most registration numbers belong to autos, two-wheelers and goods carriers.
