The health ministry on Monday informed that over 1.52 lakh fresh cases of COVID-19 have been reported in India in the past 24 hours. The addition of the fresh cases has taken the COVID-19 case tally past 2.80 crore. It is the lowest single-day surge in cases in the last 50 days.
The ministry also informed that over 21.31 crore COVID-19 jabs have been administered so far. Of it, over 10.18 lakh people were vaccinated on Sunday.
India has already surpassed Brazil in terms of cases. It is now the second-worst hit nation due to the coronavirus pandemic after the US.
3.29 lakh deaths due to COVID-19
Also, 3,128 COVID-19 related deaths were reported by the ministry during this period. The addition of the fresh fatalities has taken India’s death toll due to the deadly virus to 3,29,100. Previously, the death toll had touched 4,529-mark on May 19.
Over 2.56 crore patients recovered
Of the over 2.80 crore coronavirus cases reported so far, over 20.26 lakh are active cases of the virus. It is 7.22 per cent of the total caseload. Interestingly, over 2.56 crore cases have recovered from the viral infection so far.
Thus, the country’s recovery rate stands at 91.60 per cent. The recovery rate had marginally dipped for the first time on August 27, 2020, because of the surge in active cases. It again dropped marginally on September 7, 10 and 11, and on November 25, 26 and 27 due to a surge in cases. It also dipped on February 21, 22, 25, 26, 27, 28 and is dipping throughout the month of March, April and May. However, the recovery rate has again started improving from May 10 onwards.
Over 34.48 crore samples tested
So far, as per the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), over 34.48 crore samples for COVID-19 have been tested in the country. Of the total samples tested, 22.17 lakh samples were tested on May 25. Notably, it is the highest number of samples tested in a day. The second-highest number of over 21.57 lakh samples was tested on May 26. Over 16.83 lakh samples were tested on May 30.
3,128 deaths in a day
Of the 3,128 deaths reported in a day, 814 deaths are from Maharashtra, 493 from Tamil Nadu and 381 from Karnataka. Ninety-four deaths have been reported from Andhra Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh reported 138 deaths and West Bengal also reported 142 deaths. Gujarat reported 25 deaths and Madhya Pradesh reported 60 deaths. Delhi reported 78 deaths. Punjab reported 127 deaths.
Thirty-three deaths have been registered from Odisha and Rajasthan reported 66 deaths, whereas Bihar reported 52 deaths. Twenty-nine deaths have been reported from Jammu and Kashmir and Telangana reported 16 deaths.
Fifty-five fatalities have been reported from Assam. Uttarakhand reported 41 deaths, whereas Jharkhand reported 19 deaths. Puducherry reported 21 deaths and 186 deaths have been registered in Kerala.
